Hinsichtlich Social-Content spielt das sogenannte Social-Media-Monitoring eine immer größere Rolle. Social-Media-Monitoring ermöglicht dabei das Beobachten und Analysieren von unstrukturierten Inhalten, wie sie in sozialen Medien erzeugt bzw. weiterentwickelt werden.
Betrachtungsgegenstände sind u. a. die generellen Aktivitäten, Konversationen und Standorte der Nutzer, die Analyse von Trends zum Beispiel zu aktuelle Themen, die Identifikation der Eigenschaften der Nutzer, wie zum Beispiel Alter, Geschlecht, soziale Stellung usw., und deren Funktionen als eventuelle Lead-User, Meinungsbildner usw. innerhalb einer Community sowie die Analyse von Stimmungen und Meinungen in Bezug auf unterschiedliche Kontexte. Zum Einsatz kommen die bereits weiter oben erläuterten semantischen Technologien bzw. unterschiedliche Text-Mining-Verfahren.
